During his 10 years as a vice president (partner equivalent) and principal at A.T. Kearney, Inc., a billion dollar management consulting firm, Garry specialized in information-technology-enabled business transformation across his clients' supply chains. He was a founding member of the A.T. Kearney's Transforming the Enterprise practice and served as practice representative for the western United States. In this role, he helped develop much of the intellectual capital for this highly successful practice area.
Prior to joining A.T. Kearney, Garry was a senior consultant and practice leader for Arthur D. Little, Inc, the oldest management consulting firm in the country. He helped found the firm's Strategic Management practice in 1977 and subsequently led the San Francisco office Information Technology User practice until 1989.
From 1972 to 1977, he was in the management consulting division of Arthur Young & Company's (then a Big-8 accounting firm) San Francisco office. He was a consultant and then a manager in the Information Systems practice, helping his clients design, evaluate and implement information technology solutions.
Garry earned a bachelors degree in engineering from Stanford University in 1970 and an MBA degree with a concentration in decision analysis from Harvard Business School in 1972. He completed Advanced Management College at Stanford University in 1995. He holds a Certificate in Data Processing from the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals.
Garry held the positions of mayor, vice mayor and city council member in the City of Mill Valley, California between 1986 and 1990. He also served as president of the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin and president of the North Bay Chapter of the League of California Cities. He presently serves on the Board of Directors and chairs the Government Affairs Committee of the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce. He also is president of the Board of Artisans, a nonprofit educational arts organization.
